Facilitation of Support GroupsAnyone at times could feel lonely and isolated with unusual, difficult, or upsetting circumstances - for example a health condition, the experience of caring for someone, being a younger or older person, belonging to a particular social group. At such times, it may be helpful to meet and speak with others who have a similar experience. A support group is a weekly, fortnightly or monthly gathering of people with a shared experience. It is an opportunity for you to tell others what it is like for you to live with your situation, and to hear from others what it is like for them to live with their own. Support groups often find external facilitation helpful. And all support groups can run into difficulties at some point. When this happens, an experienced facilitator may help the group find its way forward again. Some members of The Guild have extensive experience of setting up and providing facilitation of support groups within the private, public and voluntary sectors.
