A Guild Salon
Encountering Grisélidis Réal Presented by Ruth Jones and Laurie Slade
Friday 15 October 2010, 7.30 – 9.15pm Guild Hall, 47 Nelson Square, SE1 0QA
Grisélidis Réal (1929 – 2005) was an artist, a writer and a prostitute. For more than 30 years, she fought tirelessly against injustice and for human rights, in particular the recognition of prostitutes’ rights. Her legacy includes 5 books, numerous poems, articles and an archive. She contributed to the development of a network of support services for prostitutes across Europe, including the organisation ‘Aspasie’ of which she was a founder member. In 2009 her remains were ceremonially transferred to the Cimitière des Rois in Geneva as a posthumous tribute to her life’s work.
This Guild Salon is part of a series which has explored different aspects of womanhood. Ruth will introduce this formidable and controversial woman, in a conversation with Laurie. There will be time and space for reflection and discussion about Grisélidis, her work, her political and social position and her ethical stance.
Analytical psychotherapy is built on the experience of humble body-psyche needs... Freud’s and Jung’s ruthless dedication to recognising the detailed inner realities of body and psyche has taught us not to flinch from discovery, however unflattering and childish, however ordinary (William Kraemer – Psychotherapy and Morals –1972)
We will invite the meeting to consider in what ways Grisélidis’ unfliching engagement with the physical and psychic realities of human intercourse and discourse may provide a perspective on our work as analytic psychotherapists. The Salon will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity to continue the conversation..
Tickets cost £15 and can be booked through the Senior Administrator on 0207 401 3260 and admin@guildofpsychotherapists.org.uk
