Supporting The Guild
The Guild's Clinic is the only voluntary sector provider of reduced fee psychotherapy in the London Boroughs of Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham.
Mental health problems are the invisible source of untold suffering. Research has shown links to major areas of concern such as childhood abuse, violence, anti-social behaviour, relationship breakdown, homelessness and unemployment.
Statistics from the London Borough of Southwark show that:
- Southwark and Lambeth are rated high on the Index of Deprivation compiled by the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions. They rank 8th and 12th nationally out of all boroughs.
- There are 50% more deaths from suicide in Southwark than the national average.
- Levels of depression and anxiety are between 30-40% higher than average in poorer sections of the local population.
Why psychotherapy is so needed
Psychotherapy provides a lifeline for people who suffer from a wide range of serious problems, including clinical depression, sexual and/or physical abuse, eating disorders, chronic anxiety, and post-traumatic problems. With the help of the therapist in a consistent setting, the patient works to make changes. The results can greatly improve and even transform lives. (see comments from health professionals and clinic clients)
The Guild of Psychotherapists finances its activities through subscriptions, and donations from its membership. However, this is not enough to cover the total running costs of both The Guild's reduced fee Clinic and the maintenance of its premises, a grade 2 listed Georgian building. To cover the shortfall, The Guild depends upon external charitable donations.
The Guild of Psychotherapists wishes to acknowledge the following for their generous donations:
